What is an RUO peptide merchant account?

An RUO peptide merchant account is a card account for a business that sells research-use-only peptides. PeptideApprove provides the merchant services and is partnered with the acquiring bank that sponsors the account. It qualifies the merchant and submits the file. Compliant RUO retailers are not required to have LegitScript. Approval is still subject to underwriting.

How it differs from a generic store account

A generic ecommerce account assumes ordinary retail risk. An RUO file is read for product claims, the research positioning of the catalog, and whether the site is actually a healthcare business. The merchant account page is the commercial explanation. The RUO glossary is the definition.

What does research-use-only mean for a peptide merchant?

Research-use-only (RUO) is a labeling category for materials sold for research rather than as consumer or patient products. Payment partners still review how the site describes those products.

The glossary page on RUO explains why human-use claims create underwriting problems. PeptideApprove does not provide legal or regulatory advice about how a merchant should label products.

Merchant accounts

What is an RUO peptide merchant account?

It is a merchant account reviewed for a business selling research-use-only peptides, rather than a general retail account or a healthcare account that may need separate credentials.

Compliant RUO retailers are not asked for LegitScript. Clinical, pharmacy, telehealth, and patient-care models may be. Eligibility is still subject to underwriting.

Application process

What information is usually required to apply?

The core package described on this site is the legal entity name, EIN, principal representative name, principal date of birth, and one recent business bank statement showing the LLC name and operating address.

The application can also collect a merchant services statement, and the privacy policy describes identification, formation documents, ownership, processor statements, a catalog, a website review, and a DocuSeal W-9 when those items are requested. Sensitive figures on statements may be redacted. Do not upload card numbers or bank login credentials.

Compliance

Do RUO peptide businesses need LegitScript?

No LegitScript is required for compliant research-use-only retailers using PeptideApprove's merchant services. Clinical, pharmacy, telehealth, and patient-care models may require healthcare compliance credentials and are reviewed on a separate path.

That is how these merchant services are offered with the acquiring bank PeptideApprove is partnered with. It is not a claim about every bank or network. Merchants are still responsible for their own legal compliance. PeptideApprove does not provide legal advice.
