PeptideApprove vs Stripe

Stripe doesn't onboard peptide brands. Most peptide founders learn this when their account is terminated mid-month with funds held for 180 days. PeptideApprove is the dedicated alternative — built end-to-end for the category Stripe banned.

§ Verdict

If you're currently on Stripe and processing peptides quietly, you have a window before termination — and the longer you wait, the harder MATCH recovery becomes. If Stripe has already terminated you, PeptideApprove can review the file with documented cause. Compliant research-use-only retailers do not need LegitScript. Clinical, pharmacy, and telehealth models are reviewed separately.

The honest assessment

Where each one actually wins.

PeptideApprove wins on:

  • We onboard the category Stripe banned. Stripe's Acceptable Use Policy explicitly excludes "research peptides" and "compounded GLP-1s sold outside a licensed telehealth platform." If you sell either, Stripe terminates on detection. We onboard both, with appropriate documentation.
  • Real underwriting. Stripe's onboarding is algorithmic — no human reads your business until something triggers a review. By then, the review is a termination decision. We underwrite humans-in-the-loop from day one, which means the questions get asked before, not after.
  • Purpose-built review. Stripe is a single account built for ordinary ecommerce. PeptideApprove reviews peptide merchants on the documents, claims, and product posture this category raises.
  • LegitScript. Stripe terminates peptide merchants rather than underwriting them. Compliant research-use-only retailers do not need LegitScript to apply. Clinical, pharmacy, and telehealth models are reviewed separately.

Stripe wins on:

  • Brand recognition. Stripe is a category-defining payments brand. If you're building outside the peptide category, Stripe is generally the right answer. For peptides specifically, the category bar means it's not.
  • Developer experience. Stripe's API, dashboard, and developer documentation are best-in-class. We use the gateway layer (Authorize.Net, NMI) which is solid but not as polished. If developer experience is a top-3 priority, that's a real point in Stripe's favor — for the categories they'll process.
  • Free-tier pricing. Stripe's public rate card (2.9% + $0.30) is the lowest e-commerce rate available for low-risk merchants. We can't match that because peptide processing isn't low-risk — but for non-peptide businesses, Stripe is generally the right answer.

Decision guide

Which one should you actually pick?

If Stripe has already terminated your peptide account

PeptideApprove. We can onboard you with documented cause. The 180-day funds hold from Stripe is real, but eligible merchants can receive an underwriting response within 48 hours, and begin accepting cards within 72 hours after complete documents.

If you're currently on Stripe and processing peptides under the radar

Move now, before termination. Once Stripe flags and terminates, your MID is on MATCH, funds are held 180 days, and the next processor requires documented cause to onboard you. Moving proactively avoids all of that.

If you're a non-peptide e-commerce brand

Stripe. We're peptide-only. Stripe is the right answer for nearly every low-risk e-commerce category — apparel, SaaS, digital products, food, beverage.

If you're a peptide brand that has never been on Stripe

PeptideApprove. Skip the Stripe → termination → MATCH → expensive recovery cycle entirely. Apply directly to a category-specialist processor from day one.
